Stephen R. Hannan, MD

After practicing Emergency Medicine for over thirty years, I have recently decided to focus my professional energies on the treatment of addictions. Addictions are destroying lives, not just the lives of the addicts, but also the lives of their loved ones. I will bring all my effort and energy to helping my patients recover from addiction. I utilize several different medications to eliminate withdrawal, reduce cravings, and allow my patients to start to build a new life.

I began my nursing career in order to help others find wellness 23 years ago. Along the way I encountered many individuals struggling in the throes of addiction, both personally and professionally. My faith has led me to believe that God has placed me where I am to help those who have found themselves trapped in the endless cycle and need hope. My goal is to help stabilize and rebuild lives with the help of medication assisted treatment and counseling.

My extensive years of clinical experience includes working with adults from diverse backgrounds; in both residential and outpatient treatment settings – Those facing addictions and know the pain and suffering caused to both themselves and all those around them.

I help clients address substance abuse, addiction and mental health issues, as well as grief and loss. I utilize a variety of counseling methods to help meet the needs of my clients i.e.: life skills, relapse prevention, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

I have been blessed to be able to give back to the community by helping others see the value in life; and how important it is to identify any barriers one may have to living with meaningful purpose.

I am a community leader and life coach. Serving in a nonprofit organization, I value relationship – building, volunteering, and networking. As a man of faith, I believe everyone has a designed purpose and we all have untapped potential. Once we begin to take a step back and analyze the facts about our lives, often times we just need a nudge in the right direction to set us back on course. We don’t have to have all of the answers right now; just a bit of guidance can help us rediscover the hope and freedom that was there all along.

Don’t let your struggles get in the way of pursuing your dreams and the desires of your heart. You can access more than you can imagine. Let’s work together on a plan of success and helping you realize what lies just beyond the horizon.

I am dedicated to helping clients walk into their purpose and destiny. My goal is to meet clients exactly where they are in life, no judgement. To equip every individual with self awareness and identity, to overcome fear, break generational curses and barriers, and to become more self sufficient. My desire is to give the gift of restoration, hope, love, and encouragement.

I have over 15 years of experiences helping women and families overcome domestic abuse, sexual abuse, low self esteem, rejection, teen pregnancy, substance abuse and recovery. Everyone deserves to have encouragement in their life! Someone in their corner cheering them on, when they wanted to give up and throw in the towel. I am there to tell them to PUSH and Not Give Up!

One of the hardest thing I have learned over the years is forgiving yourself.  Sometime we are our own worst critic. We have to forgive so that we can heal. Your healing starts now. Remember, today is a new day and yesterday is gone. What counts is now.

My approach to counseling is patient – centered and holistic, treating the whole person. I believe in an eclectic counseling style. I draw on multiple theoretical orientations during my counseling sessions. Through our connection, we work to heal the past and change the way you think about it. If you can change the way a patient thinks and feels about something, you can help them change the way they behave. I believe in being future – focused, goal-directed, and focused on solutions.

Patients must engage in therapy to make necessary changes in their lives. I believe that as people become more aware of their thoughts, actions, emotions, and beliefs, they have increased ability to face challenges and overcome difficult situations more successfully. I specialize in grief, mood disorders, addiction, and counseling first responders with PTSD.

I believe in providing a supportive environment, free from judgement, where my patients can explore their thoughts and feelings to gain a better understanding about themselves and their world. With this understanding, positive change and growth happens. When you change your thoughts, you change your life! Let me help you become the best version of you!
